The history of Vecchia Romagna dates from 1820, when Jean Bouton, from a family of winemakers in the French region of Charente (reputed by some to be the birthplace of cognac) arrived in Italy. Enchanted by the beauty of the Emilia-Romagna region and impressed by the quality of the local vines, Bouton established production of this traditionally French drink in his new homeland.

Vecchia Romagna brandy, created in 1939, brought worldwide fame to the house originally established by Bouton. The Italian spirit was associated with its distinctive triangular bottle, which quickly became its ‘brand identity’.

The Vecchia Romagna blend uses Trebbiano grapes, which have a fresh fruity taste. Slow distillation in copper cubes, followed by three-year ageing in oak barrels gives the brandy a deep, rich aroma, a rounded harmonious flavour and a long aftertaste.

Vecchia Romagna is superlative as a digestive and makes a fine accompaniment to coffee, dark chocolate or truffles.

Today Vecchia Romagna is the best-selling brand of brandy in Italy and the 200-year-old firm, which distils it, is the country’s biggest producer of liquors. In 1999, Vecchia Romagna became part of Gruppo Montenegro, an Italian holding with over 120 years of experience in the production and sale of fine alcoholic beverages worldwide.
